As soon as school resumed in July 2024, the Sasamani Education Sponsorship program fulfilled its promise by rewarding students with the best academic performance in Middle School. Sasamani organized a trip to Mikumi National Park and the Udzungwa Mountains, providing students a unique opportunity to learn firsthand about nature, wildlife, hiking, and waterfalls, as well as to connect with peers from the different Sasamani partner schools. A total of 19 students and their teachers participated in this educational trip, which greatly motivated them. Joining them were three Sasamani Connecticut College summer interns from the USA, further enriching the experience with their perspectives and support. Madam Tumaida from Dunda School shared her experience, saying, "This is my first time in the Udzungwa Mountains, and hiking this 4km trail to the waterfall taught me patience and resilience in a beautiful way. The longest hike I had ever done before was not more than 30 minutes, but in these mountains, it took me more than three hours to reach the top. I am grateful to the Sasamani Foundation for facilitating this trip." "This is my first time hiking a mountain and visiting a national park. I was thrilled to see animals like lions and elephants. I also learned about professions such as wildlife doctor and tour guide, which was very inspiring." - Aisha, Sasamani sponsored studentGladness, Sasamani Education Sponsorship Director, highlighted the importance of the trip: "This educational trip holds immense significance for the Sasamani sponsorship students, who come from vulnerable backgrounds and may not have the opportunity to experience Tanzania's national parks. By rewarding academic achievement and providing exposure to Tanzania's natural wonders, we aim to inspire students to excel in their studies and motivate their peers. Ultimately, our goal is to empower each student to pursue their dreams and aspirations, regardless of their circumstances." Educational tours offer students a practical and engaging learning experience, allowing them to apply classroom knowledge to real-world contexts. These trips provide opportunities for hands-on learning, promote curiosity, and foster a deeper understanding of complex subjects such as wildlife conservation and the various related job opportunities. This exposure might encourage students to consider pursuing higher education in these fields. The Sasamani Education Sponsorship program extends its heartfelt gratitude to the generous donors who made this enriching trip possible. Their support has left a lasting impact on both the students and teachers, creating memories and learning experiences that will be cherished for years to come.
