EDUCATE.
The surest road out of poverty is education. The Sasamani Foundation provides a holistic approach to child sponsorship while focusing on building self reliance. Click here to read case studies that document the improvements to Sasamani students' lives.
A $30 monthly ($360 annually) donation covers school fees from middle school through university. The Sasamani Foundation also ensures each student's basic needs are met such as food, school boarding costs, hygiene supplies, school supplies, and transportation expenses. Sasamani's Education Director visits each school at least once per month providing scheduled and on-demand counseling, ensuring sponsor children are thriving in all areas of their life. With these basic needs taken care of, students are required to uphold their part of the contract by maintaining high effort in school in order to remain eligible for a Sasamani scholarship.

Please note: the $30 monthly sponsorship donation is an average cost of a child's education. Actual costs for middle and high school fees are less, while university fees are higher. All sponsorship proceeds go directly to the students tuition, books, supplies, and if applicable, boarding costs.
CURRENT STATUS
The Sasamani Foundation provides holistic education and social support to 73 students based in Bagamoyo, Tanzania and the surrounding area. Sasamani recently facilitated a teacher focus group to learn what Sasamani is doing well and what Sasamani can improve upon. One of the most important pieces of feedback came from Mr. Steven at Kingani Secondary School. Mr. Steven shared that Sasamani is the only nonprofit in Bagamoyo working collaboratively with teachers to select sponsor students and to design and deliver programs. Because of this collaboration, Sasamani students are the school leaders and are thriving. He has noticed a considerable difference in their engagement and performance in school. Mr. Msokelee from Matimbwa Secondary School also shared that by supporting school fees, Sasamani is helping parents as well. Parents can invest in businesses, such as livestock. This can provide profits for the whole family to buy food and support a cost sharing of fees once the child is ready for university. Ms. Maria from Kiromo Secondary School added that Sasamani is the only nonprofit in Bagamoyo supporting boys and girls. The teachers agreed this was a positive approach and allowed boys with potential to find a way out of poverty, if they are willing to work hard.
